I've just finished re-watching Barry Schwartz's Ted Talk on The Paradox of Choice. He makes this very important point: Too much choice produces paralysis. Offer people too much choice and they'll find it very difficult to choose at all. Yes, at Queensberry we offer a lot of choice! We know that. We do it because every photographer is different. And we agree, as Barry Schwartz says, that it can be difficult to get your head around. But … if you want to sell products, you need to make the effort, not leave it to your customers.  As our designer friend Donna says, to run a design To View More >>

If you heven't logged into Workspace for a while you may be surprised next time by a very different looking platform. That’s because our December upgrade has now been rolled out. Here's what we've done. Interface upgrade (updated, simpler, more intuitive) Although much of what we've done in this upgrade is "behind the scenes", we’ve also worked hard on the user interface. The sole purpose of our Favourites feature is to make your job as a photographer easier. Your clients select their favourite images by clicking the Workspace heart while hovering over an image. (On mobile you can reveal the Favourite button by tapping an image to view it full screen.)  Your clients can review their Favourites by clicking the Heart icon at the top right of the screen. You can view them too, in the backend of Workspace, and use them, for example, to order prints, or other products you offer, or to design an album. To View More >>

The PJ boys are very conscious that the Problem Reporter can be frustrating, so they've added a check box which, if you want to, lets you "hide" PJ's warnings (marked with yellow triangles*) so they don't show up again. Now I wouldn't ignore automatically the problem reporter, but it can be a bit bossy sometimes, so this does feel very grown up, don't you think? A bit like the first time you realised people weren't asking you for ID any To View More >>

When we arrived in San Francisco I was amazed by the number of homeless people on the streets. They weren't threatening, they were just there. Most people ignore them, and I did too. But not always. We’re just human, and my mind was not quietened by walking by. The guy on the tour bus warned us about “homeless scammers”. I talked about it with people in our study group, and with locals. Like it was their problem to fix. Silicon Valley is the seat of innovation in the world, with arguably some of the best design companies and schools, and the richest companies. What an audacious challenge To View More >>
